Just another story...
我很想愛他 by TWINS
"Aki... AKI!!! Don't you dare close your eyes dammit... The ambulance is coming..." Kiyone cried, holding Aki's bloodied hands to her face. "Aki... please..." Ayakawa knelt beside Kiyone, his strong hands gripping Kiyone's arms, forcefully pulling her away from Aki.
He motioned for the paramedics to take Aki away, whilst whispering to the whimpering girl in his arms. "Its going to be all right, Kiyone... Its going to be all right..." Kiyone shook her head weakly, watching the ambulance speed away with her only friend.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Kiyone observed Aki's empty bedroom. It felt so cold. So dead. She could almost see Aki, smiling, laughing, waving at her to enter. Almost. But she knew. Aki was never coming back. Never. She'd not step into this room since the accident.
Not since when Aki had died in her place. She was afraid that she could not control her feelings.
Aki. She was her only friend afterall.
*****
Kiyone and Aki were not sisters. At least, not blood-related. Kiyone's mother had died early, when she was 8. She had died protecting her child from her father. A drunkard. He had killed her mother in a fit when he came home one night, muttering under his breathe that Kiyone was turning bad. He had wanted to beat Kiyone, but her mother stood up against him, and in a fit of anger, took a knife and stabbed her. Her father was jailed, but the incident left lasting scars. She never believed in anyone since.
But Aki changed everything.
Aki, was the daughter of her mother's best friend. She believed that it was her responsibility to take care of her friend's child and did so, adopting the rebellious Kiyone into the household. Kiyone was reluctant at first. She was afraid of being hurt. But Aki, with her warm smile & persistent care, Kiyone warmed up to her, slowly.
When Aki was bullied, Kiyone would stand up to her bullies and beat them down one by one, never afraid of the scars and the scoldings she would get. When Kiyone had problems, Aki was always there, by her side, to listen and to give advice and to encourage her.
They became more then sisters. Kiyone would look out for Aki and Aki would always make Kiyone laugh. Aki's mother looked at them and smiled, knowing that they would always take care of each other and make sure that they never got hurt.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Kiyone rummaged through Aki's drawers, desperate for some indication of her, for something that she could remember her by. Finding the distinctive pink book that was hers, a tear rolled down her face. It was Aki's diary.
One day, Kiyone nee-chan... I'll show it to you! Aki had laughed, pulling the pink book out of her reach.
Kiyone flipped it open.
"

Dear diary,
Today, Ayakawa-sempai smiled at me! He is so cute... I wished i dared tell him that i love him... "
"

Dear diary,
I feel so depressed... Ayakawa-sempai is nee-chan's boyfriend now... I love him... But i can never break them up... Nee-chan will be so sad... I must not tell her... I must wish her happiness...
"
The book dropped from Kiyone's hand, landing with a muffled thud onto the floor, truth hitting her like a ton of bricks. She didn't know. She should have known. Everything came back to her...
The smile which never reached Aki's eyes, the tears she saw Aki cry at night...
